Culture encompasses a range of social activities, values, conventions, beliefs and customs transmitted across generations. It shapes individuals and influences how groups perceive the world, behave, and interact. This research examines the cultural representation in the 2022 movie The Woman King through a semiotic analysis. Data were collected through a semiotic analysis. Data were collected through a close examination of the movie, focusing on various cultural symbols such as customs, narration, dialogue, clothing and props. Using Charles Sanders Pierce’s semiotic theory, which classifies signs into icon, index and symbol. The study applied a qualitative, descriptive approach to analyze these elements. The analysis involved identifying and categorizing signs within the movie’s scenes, revealing that not all scenes exhibit a complete set of icons, indexes, and symbols; some display only one or two categories. Specifically, the study identified four icon signs, ten index signs, and eleven symbol signs. This study concludes that The Woman King richly incorporates cultural content, as evidenced by the diverse array of symbols present in the movie.
