THE ROLE OF GENDER AND CLASS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN CATHERINE CALLED BIRDY MOVIE: A FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE

The purpose of this research is to examine how gender and class roles are portrayed in Lena Dunham's Movie "Catherine Called Birdy" from a feminist perspective. Examining how this affects Catherine, the main character, via her experiences and struggles, as well as how she challenges patriarchy based on class and gender, are the goals of this analysis. This research uses Intersectional Feminism and Marxist Feminism theory to analyse, providing a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between gender and class. To examine conversations, characteristics, and behaviours, the study uses a descriptive qualitative methodology. Through many viewings of the movie and meticulous note-taking, the study uncovers patterns and relationships in the data. The results provide a comprehensive indication that the movie both reflects and subverts the social expectations placed on women in the medieval era. By providing 20 data, 3 data portray class roles and 17 data of gender roles.
