Racism Phenomenon Portrays In Till Movie By Chinonye Chukwu (supervised by Rizky Mirani Desi Pratama, and Dwi Puji Hastuti)

The purposes of this research are to find what kinds of racism showed in the Till movie, how many racist phenomena occur in the Till movie, and how do the black people respond to racism in the Till movie. The method that the writer used in this research is qualitative methods with semiotic approach that focuses on the meaning of language signs which contain racism that found in the movie Till. There are two data collecting technique that the writer used, there are Primary Data and Secondary Data. Primary data is data which obtained from a video of movie Till. Secondary data is data which obtained from literature. As a result of this research, the writer found that there are six types of racism found in the movie Till. There are Interpersonal Racism, Institutional Racism, Structural Racism, Societal Racism, Discrimination, and Violence. In total, there are seventeen phenomena of racism that occur in the Till movie. There are several responds from black people to the act of racism that they experience in the Till movie. The responds are understanding and compassion, solidarity in the community, celebration and pride in our culture, assistance and guidance younger generations, advocacy and activism, and support from different races.
