Disertasi: PEMBELAJARAN MEMBACA BAHASA INGGRIS BERBASIS E-LEARNING (Studi Etnografi di Universitas Terbuka Indonesia)

This study aims at providing/having an overview deeply about English reading skills at Universitas Terbuka (UT, literally Open University) based on e-learning. The research was conducted from March 2014 to February 2015. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach conducted with ethnographic methods by adopting the method of Spradley. The data collecting techniques being used were observation, interview, and document analysis. Data analyzed by using Spradley techniques such as domain, taxonomy, component, and theme analysis. The result of the analysis shows that (1) the learning system implemented at UT is through e-learning is already well underway with have many means to improve reading skills; (2) the learning objective is to improve students’ comprehension in English language reading; (3) various types of reading texts are used written by native speaker; (4) the reading procedures are pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading described through written instructions; (5) evaluation conducted at the learning process and at the end of the teaching. Evaluation is performed twice, on the processed and at the end of the learning and teaching; (6) lecturer’s role are as motivator and fasilitator; (7) student’s role is very important in having high motivation and good dicipline in studying.
