ABSTRACT

Renny (33190202), The Used of Code Switching in G.A.C Song Lyrics.

This study examines the use of code switching in the song lyrics of G.A.C, a renowned Indonesian music group. The writer used qualitative research that analysed the data in the form of descriptive words. The data was collected from GAC songs through the lens of Romaine's theory for the types of code switching and the functions outlined by Bloom and Gumperz theory. By analysing G.A.C.'s lyrics, this research identifies the types of code switching, including intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tag switching, as per Romaine's classification. The study discovered 5 data points of inter-sentential code switching (29.42%), 8 data points of Intra-sentential code switching (47.06%), and 4 data points of Tag switching (23.53%). Additionally, the writer found the functions of code switching in this study as follows: An interjection, To Mark Personality and Objectification, To Specify an Addressee, To Reiterate, To Carry out a Referential, as proposed by Bloom and Gumperz. The findings reveal that G.A.C utilises code switching to enhance lyrical creativity, express multifaceted identities, and reach a wider audience. This study provides insights into the strategic use of code switching in popular music and its functions as a tool for shaping linguistic.
